Panamanian Computer Science/Engineering PhD Wiki

Motivation
I'm setting up this wiki and forum to gather Panamanians that have a PhD in Computer Science (CS) or Computer Engineering (CE), and Panamanians that are currently PhD candidates in those disciplines.
As Panamá is currently trying to ignite research in both CS and CE, those that will return to Panamá to do research will obviously need international collaborators. With international collaborators, researchers in Panamá will avoid isolation, problems due to lack of research infrastructure, and problems due to absence of PhD students. I hope that this website will make things easier to those that return to Panamá to do research.
Additionally, given the small number of Panamanians with (or pursuing) PhDs in CS and CE—an estimated less than 20—, I believe it is a good idea to learn about each other. Finally, this could be useful to kids finishing high-school or college in Panamá to ask question to experts—they currently do not have access to PhDs in academia or industry—, and thus avoid being discouraged about CS/CE or going to graduate school.
Building the Network
- Please email this URL to any other Panamanian you know with a PhD in CS/CE, or doing PhD studies in CS/CE. I'm assuming that we build a strongly connected graph, thus the website will eventually have the full network.
- Please go to the Introductions forum to list yourself—the first "introduction" is here. If you do not want register, please at least take the time to email your name so that I can list it in the forum.
- Feel free to use the forum to make any comment or suggestion about this project. You can also use it to discuss other topics (your research?). If you would like to add text or pages to this wiki, you are free to register.
Language
I believe it is better to keep the wiki and forum in English for the following reasons:
- If we use Spanish the audience will be severely limited, thus negatively affecting our goal—I learned of one Panamanian PhD candidate through an Indian friend.
- I wouldn't be surprised if technical discussions start in the wiki or forum. Using English is inevitable in technical discussions, and SpanGlish is just a mess.
- We write our conference papers in English anyways :-)
